Two months in and I’m just beginning to see what a wonderful wild ride this Rotary year will be. This club and its members really make things happen in this town. As president, today I simply scramble to keep up.

In just two months this club has had its impact on Wilsonville.

  • We’ve hosted yet another successful Summer concert series —  our 18th. The bands blew us all away and our towns people showed up in force with over 4,000 attending. That great crowd donated over $7,000 to eradicate polio internationally – THANKS TO YOU ALL!
Our thanks to our 18 community-minded sponsors for helping make it happen.
  • On July 13-14 we hosted our 18th TACE (Through A Child’s Eyes) Summer Event within the walls of Coffee Creek Correctional Facility – bringing together incarcerated mothers and their kids at a time when both need the support and together time more than ever. This Rotary International award-winning program continues to bring joy and love where it’s needed most – contributing to the recovery and rebuilding that’s so critical for these families.
  • We successfully launched our high-school Interact club, where we’ll sponsor and mentor the students to develop their leadership skills and help align them with international and local service programs that promote peace and help the less fortunate in our world. 15 kids attended the first meeting on Sept 3. Woo Hoo!

Coming up….

  • On October 9, through the Rotary Friendship Exchange, we’re hosting a delegation of Sri Lankan Rotarians at Wilsonville’s World Of Speed. World peace happens one friendship, one handshake, at a time. We’re proud to put our energy and time into this program that brings the world’s people together; celebrating our diversity, our customs, our wonderful food, ..and more
  • We’re expanding our meeting into the evenings, we’re not just a “lunch-time” club any more. These primarily social events also serve to allow our friends that work outside Wilsonville (hence, can’t make it to lunch with us) to join in our rewarding service activities. Who knows – with enough interest, perhaps we open up an evening club?
  • We’re gearing up to cook our famous omelets (which we do 5-6 times a year) to contribute to the community-centric and fund-raising efforts for our schools, our city, our veterans, and more.
  • Finally, we’re beginning to solicit nominations for the Wilsonville First Citizen, that person or couple that demonstrate exceptional volunteerism and community service. We’ll honor the finalists at our Heart-Of-Gold Awards Dinner on February 29th, 2020.

I’m proud to be part of such an impactful group of folks as this Rotary club, and truly honored that they’d ask me to be their president for a year.
