Tommy Reeder and Zach Morse, Parks Lead Maintenance Specialists and Certified Playground Safety Inspectors for the City of Wilsonville, will share insights on Wilsonville’s inclusive playgrounds and the role of Universal Design in creating accessible spaces for children of all abilities.
Designing inclusive playgrounds comes with both benefits and challenges, and Tommy and Zach will discuss how Wilsonville is implementing Universal Design principles in both new and existing play areas. These thoughtfully designed spaces ensure that children of all abilities can play, interact, and explore together through accessible equipment, sensory-friendly elements, and creative play structures that support physical, social, and emotional development.
Wilsonville has prioritized inclusive play at locations like the newly completed Boones Ferry Park playground, Murase Plaza in Memorial Park, and the nature play area at Memorial Park. These spaces offer features such as accessible surfaces, companion swings, and natural play opportunities that foster community connection.
The Rotary Club of Wilsonville meets weekly Thursdays at noon to carry out its purpose of providing service and fellowship to members and the Wilsonville community. Guests are welcome. Lunch is available off the menu; please arrive and order by 11:45 a.m. if you are ordering lunch. For more information, email president@wilsonvillerotary.com.
