As the old saying goes, “To make an omelet, sometimes you’ve got to break a few eggs.” The Rotary Club of Wilsonville, however, is made up of good eggs who don’t break things, but do make good omelets.
Every year, the club holds several omelet breakfasts to benefit local causes. All food expenses are paid by the club’s foundation, and club members serve as the chefs. This fall, members brought their talents to Lowrie Primary School, Boones Ferry Primary School and Wood Middle School, with proceeds benefitting the students. Additionally, the club held a free breakfast for veterans at the Charbonneau Country Club.
Eugene Wallace recently joined the club and is now serving as the club director of community service. “I was awed to experience, from the inside out, the longstanding history of hospitality and camaraderie amongst club members,” he said. “Each omelet breakfast was another opportunity to witness the Rotary motto of Service Above Self, and an authentic friendship through service.”
After all, it’s not just about the omelets — it’s about the good eggs making them. “Each omelet breakfast had tremendous Club volunteer support and a great outpouring of appreciation from the groups/organizations supported,” Wallace said.
This spring, the club plans to hold at least two additional breakfasts. One will be a Friday night dinner at Boeckman Creek Primary School, complete with a student talent show. The other will be a free breakfast for the city’s WERK community clean up day (“WERK” stands for Wilsonville Environmental Resource Keepers”).
